It’s February, and of course in the Midwest that means it’s anything but car show weather. Chicago has seen over a foot of snow in just the last four days and the temperatures have hovered in the single digits. The roads are covered in salt and they’re ruled by slush covered Subarus and winter-beater Volvos. Despite what Mother Nature is telling us, though, car season is upon us. The Chicago Auto Show marks the unofficial beginning of the event season here. This year’s spectacle is the 110th and spans over a million square feet of indoor show space filled with nearly a thousand vehicles on display. Every mainstream marque and many smaller players are present to show off their newest models. We’ve seen unveilings from Nissan, Volkswagen, and Subaru just to name a few and there are more concept cars, performance variants, and custom builds than I could count. Beyond just being able to see and sit in the cars, guests are able to go off-roading at Camp Jeep and experience the thrill of a Toyota Camry on the test track (yes, I really just used the words “thrill” and “Camry” in the same sentence). That variety and the sheer volume of usually hard to find vehicles makes this an automotive photographer’s dream. We dispatched two photographers to McCormick Place to bring the show to you.
The Chicago Auto Show will be open from Saturday, February 10th to Monday, February 19, 2018. Bringing your camera? Tag us on social media so we can see your work. Don’t forget that you can get discounted tickets by bringing three cans of food to donate to A Safe Haven Foundation.
